Ari Kaplan is CEO and President of the Independent Oracle Users Group, a nearly 20,000 member professional technical association for one of world’s largest software companies. He was the CEO and CTO for Expand Beyond Corporation before its acquisition in March 2005 by Datalink (Amex DLK). Kaplan received his Bachelor's degree in Engineering from the California Institute of Technology and in 1997 was awarded the school's prestigious "Alumni of the Decade" distinction. In 2001, he was included in Crain Communications’ "40 Under 40" profile of business leaders. Ari is a leading analyst and technologist for Major League Baseball, having worked with twelve teams since 1989 (click here for more).

As Expand Beyond’s CEO, Kaplan was responsible for setting and executing the strategic vision of the company, which was one of the leading pioneers of the mobile and wireless business software market. As CTO, he was the driving force behind a talented software development team focused on products within the Expand Beyond framework that empower companies to manage their entire IT infrastructure (databases, applications, servers, networks) from mobile consoles. Expand Beyond raised over $16 million led by Menlo Ventures, retained an impressive customer roster, executed OEM and partnerships with companies such as Teradata and Microsoft, and was issued several broad patents in mobile software.

Kaplan is recognized as a leading authority in the IT industry. He has architected and led some of the most successful and visible data centers and applications for Fortune 500 companies including 3Com, Hallmark, Merck and the Chicago Board Options Exchange. He has co-authored five best-selling books including the first-to-market book on Windows 2000, three on Oracle, and one on baseball analytics.

He has been interviewed for more than 200 print articles and TV segments, including the Today Show, CNN, the History Channel, USA Today, BBC, Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, CIO, Los Angeles Times, Red Herring, ComputerWorld, InfoWorld and eWeek.

Kaplan is a popular speaker at national and international technology conferences including Comdex, OracleWorld, the Caltech/MIT Enterprise Forum, Wall Street Technology Association, Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business, and JETRO’s US-Japan Hi Tech Partnership.

Kaplan is on the Swedish-Russian Working Group on the Fate of Raoul Wallenberg, investigating the disappearance of the Holocaust hero into the Soviet gulag. He serves on the board of directors for the Independent Oracle Users Group (as President and CEO), the Illinois Technology Association, the Talent Economy (a national magazine for IT professionals) and Oracle Magazine’s editorial board.
